The running prisoner represents the seconds. At the end of each minute, a guard appears in the tower and yells. The prisoner stops and disappears. The number on the "escapes stopped" sign then goes up. The "escapes stopped" represents the minutes.
At every hour, instead of disappearing when the guard shouts, the prisoner is shot. A "BANG!" pops over the prisoner, and his body is added to the pile.
The pile of bodies represents the hour. I tried to make it so that you could see all their heads so you could count the hour.
