My first 3D sketch, this "hinged octahedron" was one of Buckminster Fuller's favorite structures. With 12 vertices and the 8 faces of an octahedron specially connected, this "Jitterbug" as he called it, transforms and expands as its triangles rotate. Halfway through the transformation its edges form a cuboctahedron. When the proportions equal the golden ratio, a "partial" icosahedron emerges.
